Futago's menu showcases a rich variety of udon preparations, each crafted to highlight the pleasing chew of thick, fresh noodles drenched in thoughtfully composed broths. For those seeking bold, dynamic flavors, the Spicy Dan Dan Udon and Cheese Niku Curry meld spiciness and umami in ways that bring warmth and comfort, especially on a cold Boston day. The Kamo Nanban Udon, featuring tender slices of marinated duck with a subtle hint of yuzu kosho, delights with its aromatic complexity. Vegetarian diners will appreciate options like the Hot Sansai Udon, generously topped with Japanese mountain vegetables that contribute an earthy, slightly bitter crunch, contrasting deliciously with the smooth noodles.

Before diving into your bowl, the appetizer selection at Futago Udon primes your palate for the main event. Crispy-on-the-outside, gooey-on-the-inside Takoyaki offers a quintessential street food experience with generous octopus fillings. The Purple Sweet Potato Tempura, available vegan by request, provides a subtly sweet, vibrant crunch, perfectly complemented by a spicy mentaiko dipping sauce. Fried delights like Kaki Fry (Japanese fried oysters) and Idako Karaage (fried baby octopus) round out a tempting spread that’s ideal for sharing or snacking whilst you wait for your udon.

Patrons consistently mention the friendly and attentive service, which enhances the dining experience and makes you feel genuinely welcomed. Portion sizes are generous, contributing to great value without ever compromising quality.

Freshness shines through every bowl—from the springy texture of the noodles that perfectly capture your chopsticks, to the aromatic broths and fresh vegetables, all the way to the thoughtfully prepared proteins and garnishes. The uni cream udon has excellent flavor, and the broth is not thick. We had to pay a little extra because they only have premium uni at that time. Takoyaki was crispy on the outside and gooey in the inside with good amount of octopus.

Futago has a great variety of flavorful bowls of udon that are all fantastic for a cold day! Food: Every udon I’ve tried has been a blast of flavor. The broth clings perfectly to the udon noodles making the bouncy noodles the star. The creamy uni bowl was my favorite flavor so far but it’s almost too rich to finish in one sitting. Service: The wait staff is very friendly and work hard to seat you in a reasonable wait time. Atmosphere: The paints on the wall and the wooden furniture makes for a cozy space, but since the seating space is maxed out it can get a little noisy.

I had the Sukiyaki Udon here and it was absolutely magnificent! The udon's broth was rich and flavorful, and all the ingredients were distinct, fresh, and perfectly balanced. The portion size and price point were both very reasonable, as it’s not “cheap,” but the quality thoroughly justifies the cost. More than just food, what stood out most to me was the level of hospitality. The servers in this place were passionate and attentive, frequently checking in to make sure everything was going well and even refilling my water without me having to ask. It made this whole dining experience feel warm and welcoming. If I could suggest one thing, I’d love to see a bit more East Asian ambiance, by maybe having some popular background music to match the amazing udons. Overall, a wonderful experience! I highly, HIGHLY recommend Futago Udon if you’re looking for a cozy, comfortable, and tasty Japanese dining place in Boston!

Tons of great udon options, huge bowls too. Bright and good energy inside due to how busy it is. Got two of the vegetarian ones to try, honestly go with the Hot Sansai over the Kitsune. Posted pics down below. It’s the same you just get one more veggie type with the Sansai (unless you don’t like mountain veggies which are like mushrooms and more bitter style sprout veggies). Hella busy all the time, but they move people in and out pretty quick. Would recommend for 2 people. Can do 4 but it’s a smaller venue.

Wow the bowls are huge and beautiful. The flavors are really good, the one downside is the noodles aren't as chewy as I would expect from udon noodles. The cold mentaiko udon didn't have the taste I expected, it was more of a refreshing crab taste than a creamy mentaiko taste.

Cute place, always packed. Udon was good, felt like the meat was a little fatty but broth delicious. Edamame small portion
